Steven Woods

Dr. Steven Woods has been a practicing adolescent mental health specialist for over 20 years. With a background in biology and counseling, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from Howard University in 2010 and subsequently conducted research and completed clinical training in Psychiatry with a subspecialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He has since continued his clinical service working with children and adolescents in school and residential treatment settings as a direct care clinician and Chief of Service.

As a clinical supervisor, Dr. Woods actively supports the clinical training and supervision of psychiatry trainees and medical students. He is particularly committed to bringing in more members of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups into the fields of medicine and allied health through better preparation and access to opportunities at high school and undergraduate levels. These pathways are critical for young people to pursue careers in medicine and are essential for ensuring better racial representation in the medical profession and related fields. Dr. Woods has varied research interests including topics in the areas of treatment efficacy, the interface of mental health and education, neurodevelopmental disorders, and dementing illnesses.

Steven has been a singer (Bass I) in The Washington Chorus since 2018, performing at the Kennedy Center, the Music Center at Strathmore, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and other venues across the greater Washington, DC metropolitan region. When not working or singing, he also enjoys traveling and scuba diving, and is an avid skier.
