Visionary Campaign
At this moment, all of TWC's funding sources are facing very real challenges. That includes:
Federal and Local Grant Funding—up to $300,000 / year
Ticket Revenue from The Kennedy Center
Individual Giving
Despite this uncertainty, we want to continue to do what we do best: push the envelope and advance our art form. That is why we are launching the Visionary Campaign. This initiative will make it possible to thrive—not just survive.
Our current financial circumstances can be understood through a particularly apt musical metaphor: a technique known as “stagger breathing.” As our singers know, there are times within a piece of music when the director wants to create a continuous wall of sound that stretches for an extended period of time without any obvious breaks. As choristers, we achieve this by listening attentively to those around us and timing our breaths so that we take them just before or after others do, rather than all at once. By paying attention to one another’s needs, the entire ensemble is able to sustain our song in a way that would be impossible for any individual singer alone.
In the same way, we are now asking you to embrace the spirit of staggered breathing. When other core areas of our funding may be struggling—like a singer who has run out of breath—we need you to listen, to sustain us, and to carry us through this moment. Your support will help us hold our collective sound until those other sources of funding can recover and return.
Earlier this spring, your peers raised $103,625 to launch the Visionary Campaign, which will do just that. It is our hope that you will help us double that amount, as innovative productions can cost as much as $200,000 for us to produce. Donate today to help us meet that goal, ensuring our work can continue through this adversity.
