The Artistic Director sets high audition standards to ensure the quality of the Chorus. Members must audition every year. Auditions for new singers are usually held during the summer months, early September, and occasionally in early January.
Auditions last approximately 10 minutes and consist of:
1 – prepared choral extract (to be selected from four PDFs provided in advance)
1 – prepared song (if you do not have a prepared song you may add a second choral extract)
Following the audition, singers will be notified of his or her acceptance by TWC staff via phone or email.
The Washington Chorus rehearses on Monday evenings at National Presbyterian Church on Nebraska Avenue in Northwest DC. The Church is accessible by Metro bus and rail. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled throughout the season. Two orchestral rehearsals are typically scheduled prior to each performance.
Initial membership dues are $75. Returning singer dues are billed annually at $150. All singers pay a $30 library fee annually.
From time to time there are small ensemble opportunities during the season. Choristers are selected though a series of criteria, and the final decisions are made by the Artistic Director.
