DC's own two-time Grammy Award®-winning ensemble The Washington Chorus return to the Kennedy Center on November 16, 2019, with their singular seasonal performance of the acclaimed Mozart's Requiem.

Noted for the superb artistry of its performances and recordings of the entire range of the choral repertoire, The Washington Chorus's recognition as a cultural leader in the nation's capital is well earned. At this year's event, the 160+ singer chorus under artistic director Christopher Bell juxtaposes Mozart's final composition performed with works from composers throughout the following centuries. The program features Jennifer Higdon's choral adaptation of the E.E. Cummings Poem 'Somewhere I Have Never Travelled Gladly Beyond', the Joel Puckett composition 'This Mourning' and Josef Rheinberger's 'Abendlied' inviting the audience to explore the full range of human experience.

Executive Director Stephen Marc Beaudoin believes modern audiences will find the November 16 concert program personally inspiring:

"There are so many beautiful moments in this program that reflect on our shared humanity and our shared grief; this may be one of the most beautiful and haunting things you'll ever hear live. Every time I hear the opening of the ‘Lacrimosa’ movement in Mozart's Requiem with its beautiful rising and falling violins, I have a deeply emotional response."

With modern life making countless demands on our time and attention, The Washington Chorus provide a needed respite inviting friends, families, and new friends to have experiences that connect us in an authentic and personal way.

Experiencing live music at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall is an incomparable experience both for the performers and audience. The Kennedy Center Concert Hall is ornately beautiful while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere that welcomes the audience to share an inclusive sense of occasion.

By coming to TWC's Mozart Requiem, you'll enter a space for reflection, a space for experiencing beauty, and a space for connecting again with yourself and, if you choose, with others.
