Daniel Alfonso Jr.
Benedicamus Domino is a recent Christmas work by Dr. Daniel Alfonso, Jr., the former composer-in-residence of the San Francisco Choral Artists. Dr. Alfonso is internationally recognized for his research and performance of Brazilian choral music, which is on full display in this piece. While the lyrics to Benedicamus Domino are written in Latin and come from a medieval Christmas carol, the music itself is in the style of a Brazilian marcha rancho. This type of music is often associated with parades and celebrations, and is employed here to create a festive, joyful carol that is sure to stand out among the rest.
