The addition of Gloria to Candlelight Christmas serves as a peek into the past, present and future of The Washington Chorus. Francis Poulenc’s setting of the “Gloria” text from the Mass Ordinary premiered in 1961, the same year TWC was founded. This exuberant work of worship paints a picture of the choral landscape our organization was born into, and has remained a staple of the choral world since its premiere. The full Gloria will be featured at our upcoming anniversary concert in February, alongside Nkeiru Okoye’s modern oratorio When the Caged Bird Sings. In this concert, TWC will be performing only the final movement as a small look into what comes ahead and what came before.
