Julia Bezems Taccolini

Julia Bezems Taccolini is a choral conductor and soprano dedicated to building community through choral music. She serves as Assistant Conductor of The Washington Chorus, the two-time Grammy Award-winning symphonic chorus esteemed as an artistic and cultural leader in the nation's capital. She holds a Master of Sacred Music in choral conducting from the University of Notre Dame, where she studied with Dr. Jerry Blackstone and Dr. Mark Doerries. While at Notre Dame, she was Co-Director of the Notre Dame Children's Liturgical Choir and Assistant Conductor for the award-winning women's choirs of Saint Mary's College.

Taccolini's conducting engagements have brought her into collaboration with some of the field's leading ensembles and institutions. She most recently served as the Choral Conducting Apprentice at Green Lake Festival of Music, leading the 80-voice ensemble in works by Shawn Kirchner and Elaine Hagenberg. She has been selected for advanced conducting training programs and masterclasses with Chanticleer, the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, the Chorus America Choral-Orchestral Conducting Academy, Spire Chamber Ensemble, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. She has served in artistic positions across the country, including Assistant Conductor of the Bellevue Chamber Chorus in Bellevue, WA, and launching choral projects in collaboration with Crescendo North America.

A dual-degree graduate of the University of Michigan, Taccolini earned Bachelor's degrees in Voice Performance and Computer Science. As a soprano, she has performed with ensembles including Seattle Pro Musica, Radiance, Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble, and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. With a particular interest in early and sacred music, she has appeared as a soloist in works by Buxtehude, Bach, Charpentier, Purcell, and Zelenka, and has conducted research on mathematical patterns in Bach’s vocal works. She maintains a special interest in Gregorian chant and its application in both liturgical and concert settings.

Taccolini is an advocate for educational opportunities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Trained as an engineer, she has worked as a software engineer at Microsoft since 2021, mentoring interns and early-career engineers. She serves as President of the Board of Directors of Seven Mile, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing music, visual art, and coding enrichment to Detroit youth.
