Jerry Kavinski

Jerry Kavinski has enjoyed a storied musical career in the Washington, DC area for over twenty-five years. Equally at home on stage as a vocalist and on the podium, his performances have graced numerous well-known venues in the metropolitan area.

Kavinski holds degrees from The Catholic University of America (Bachelor of Music, Magna cum Laude), and George Mason University (Master of Music in Choral Conducting, Summa cum Laude), where he studied under Dr. Stan Engebretson and Dr. Lisa Billingham (conducting) and Grammy Award-winning tenor John Aler (voice). He has prepared the chorus for a program of John Williams’ music with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Emil de Cou, and has collaborated on multiple occasions with Marvin Hamlisch and Erich Kunzel as a vocalist in a professional chamber ensemble, also with the National Symphony Orchestra.

An accomplished lyric tenor and proud member of AGMA, recent seasons include chorus appearances with Wolf Trap Opera (Carmen) and Washington Concert Opera (Luisa Miller, Manon Lescaut, Lakmé). Kavinski has performed as a soloist with The Washington Chorus, Washington Bach Consort, New Dominion Chorale, Reston Chorale, Maryland Choral Society, and Fairfax Choral Society, with repertoire ranging from Bach's cantatas and Handel's oratorios to works of Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Other professional choral engagements include numerous appearances with Opera Lafayette, Folger Consort, National Gallery of Art Vocal Arts Ensemble, The National Cathedral Choir of Men, Washington Bach Consort, Cathedral Choral Society, District Chorale, Thomas Circle Singers, Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the men's ensemble Brethren. 

Career highlights span a broad range, from singing a vespers service with Pope Benedict XVI to collaborating on multiple performances and recordings with the Folger Consort, as well as taking part in events of national importance including the State Funerals of Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush and the 2009 and 2013 Inaugural Prayer Services for Barack Obama.

Kavinski has served as the Director of Music at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Great Falls, VA since 2014, where he curates a music program rich in Gregorian chant and vocal polyphony and conducts the resident professional choir.
