With so many things to experience or buy this holiday season in Montgomery County and the surrounding region, The Washington Chorus’ Candlelight Christmas at Strathmore on Saturday, December 14, at 8 pm offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the season with family and friends, to experience extraordinary music in the beautiful Music Center at Strathmore, and lots of high holiday cheer.

Here are five reasons The Chorus thinks its 2019 “Candlelight Christmas at Strathmore” is unmissable for you this Saturday, December 14:

1.       An Extraordinary Musical Line-Up! The Washington Chorus has assembled an extraordinary line-up of instruments and voices to light up the Strathmore stage this season, including National Capital Brass, Virginia Bronze handbell choir, organist Paul Byssainthe, the Walt Whitman High School Chamber Chorus (as part of their Side by Side program), and of course the 130+ voices of two-time Grammy award winners, The Washington Chorus (TWC). TWC Artistic Director Christopher Bell presides over the evening with a big holiday spirit - and more than a few costume changes.

2.       Sing-Alongs! Part of the joy of TWC’s “Candlelight Christmas at Strathmore” is the chance for YOU to become part of the music. This season, the Chorus invites you to sing along with us on several beloved carols, including what it predicts will be your new favorite - “The Christmas Alphabet Song.”

3.       Socks! Once you’ve raised your voice to sing along on “The Christmas Alphabet Song,” you’ll want to race to the lobby or online to snag a pair of one-of-a-kind TWC Christmas Alphabet socks. These cozy custom socks in festive red and green with white alphabet letters are made with US cotton and knit in North Carolina. At $25 a pair, the proceeds from your socks purchase help to support TWC’s community Connections programs, including the Side by Side program, Singing Together/Arts for the Aging, and the DC Honor Chorus.

4.       Free Parking! That’s right… The Music Center at Strathmore offers free parking for concert patrons and ready access to multiple modes of public transit. So, getting to and from The Music Center at Strathmore is not only easy, it’s inexpensive.

5.       Seasonal Magic! From the beauty and peace of the opening candlelight processional to the high holiday spirits of the “Hallelujah Chorus,” there’s seasonal magic in every song at TWC’s “Candlelight Christmas at Strathmore” 2019.

The Washington Chorus looks forward to celebrating the season with you this Saturday, December 14, 8 pm at the Music Center at Strathmore. Can’t attend our Dec. 14 event but want to join us for other seasonal magic? We’re offering three more performances on Dec. 15 and 22 of “Candlelight Christmas” at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, and one performance of a kids and families holiday show on Dec. 23 at the George Mason University Center for the Arts.
