Margot Pien
Margot Pien brings over a decade of experience in non-profit arts administration, concert operations and event management technology to her role with The Washington Chorus. A native of the D.C. suburbs, the throughline with her experiences is a love of facilitating unique events and bringing people together.
After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism & mass communication, she pursued internships and contract work in the performing arts and music worlds. Organizations she worked with include the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, Music Maker Relief Foundation, Merge Records, Etix, and the National Council for Traditional Arts.
After interning at the Kennedy Center, Margot worked for more than three years in artistic programming at the institution. She executed more than 1,000 performances as part of the daily, free Millennium Stage series, in addition to festivals (including the Finding a Line skateboarding festival) and one-off concerts, working with artists such as Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Mos Def, Chris Thile, and Chaka Khan. She focused on artist services, executing contracts and processing payments, and project management.
Next, Margot joined Sofar Sounds as City Director in Washington, D.C. She oversaw operations for more than 500 unique pop-up shows with responsibilities including booking artists, securing venues, and overseeing an ambassador team.
Most recently, Margot spent four years working in the world of event management and meeting software. As part of the customer teams for startups Webex Events (formerly known as Socio) and Slido — both acquired by Cisco Systems — she helped customers’ events and meetings run smoothly.
Margot has also taken on freelance roles in event support and artist management over the years, working with festivals such as The Governor’s Ball Music Festival and The Meadows Music & Arts Festival and artists such as GRAMMY-winner Dom Flemons and local D.C. funk and soul band Everyday Everybody (fka AZTEC SUN). In her free time, Margot loves going to concerts, seeing new art museum exhibitions, reading, and caring for her cat Olivia.
