RACHMANINOFF Vespers

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s All Night Vigil stands as the crowning achievement of the “Golden Age” of Russian Orthodox sacred choral music. Often praised as Rachmaninoff’s finest work, the Vespers (as it is often called) was one of Rachmaninoff’s two favorite compositions along with The Bells. This passionate setting of the Russian All Night Vigil is to the Eastern Orthodox liturgy what Bach’s Mass in B Minor is to the West, and a perfect complement to the season of The Washington Chorus!
