Community Programs

The Washington Chorus recognizes that patrons in the community may not be able to attend TWC’s concerts at traditional venues. Those that are able to attend may need special assistance. In response to this, TWC has created a series of community programs that bring the joy of choral music to all.

OUTREACH SINGERS
This subset of singers from the main chorus presents free concerts that bring choral music to the general public in community settings, as well as to the elderly or infirm who, for mobility or health reasons, cannot attend concerts at the Kennedy Center or Strathmore. The Outreach Singers present one-hour concerts in such places as children's hospitals, hospices, veterans' homes, senior centers, and retirement homes, and strive to recreate the concert-going experience for their audiences. Along with large-print program, sing-alongs are offered where appropriate to actively involve audience members. The musical experience created by the Outreach Singers has a powerful and positive effect on their audiences. The intimate performances in patient care and senior settings are of a nature where the Singers establish a strong rapport with the audience, thereby creating an uplifting experience as well as delivering a musical respite for patients and staff alike.

TICKETS FOR ALL
The Washington Chorus firmly believes that its music should be financially accessible to all of its constituents. Accordingly, the Chorus offers discounted tickets to students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. In addition, every TWC performance has tickets which are priced under $20.

MUSIC FOR THE DEAF

The Washington Chorus is extremely pleased to be able to increase the accessibility of its Christmas concerts by providing sign language interpretation (ASL and Straight English) during these performances. Many people have compared this interpretation to "seeing the music dance" and these concerts are always enjoyed by the deaf and hard-of-hearing, as well as by the hearing members of the audience.

SPECIAL SERVICES
By performing at the Kennedy Center and the Music Center at Strathmore, TWC concerts are always accessible to persons with disabilities. These facilities include means of providing effective communication such as assistive listening devices, large print and Braille programs, and a generally solid foundation of physical accessibility such as disabled parking, accessible restrooms, accessible signage, elevators, etc.
